After a long search for the right piece property city and county officials, representatives from the Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services, and the BM&K team gathered together last Tuesday, June 4th, for the groundbreaking of North Canton’s new fire station department No. 9. BM&K is proud to announce that Cherokee County and the City of Canton has chosen BM&K Construction and Engineering to construct the new facility.
The current North Canton Station No. 9 was built in the 1970s by the North Canton Volunteer Fire Department. The new station is long overdue, though the current one has served its purpose. The new station will have much-needed room and equipment. One essential update that will be in the new facility are the three bays adequate in size for ladder trucks. The fire station was originally home to a force of volunteer firefighters. As the county has moved toward a force of full-time firefighters the need for adequate housing for those firefighters on 24-hour shifts has become imperative.
This new station is scheduled to be completed by Spring of 2020. The new fire station will be located on a piece of property along Ga. Highway 140 north of downtown Canton. It will be 11,600 square feet, with three bays that will be large enough to accommodate a ladder truck. The new station will comfortably house 12 firefighters, and have plenty of storage space for equipment.
Officials celebrated this next big step towards opening the new station and are excited for the hard-working members of the Station No. 9 crew who have served the community and will benefit from this new facility. They look forward to seeing how the new station better supports the city and the county in the future.
In an article from Cherokee County and Fire & Emergency Services Jud Martin, Capital Projects Project Manager for Cherokee County, said, “The facility is designed for ease of maintenance of operability. It will also provide safer living conditions and will allow firefighters to have a quicker response to emergency incidents.”
Don Clerici, BM&K Owner and Founder, states “We are proud to be chosen for the construction of the new North Canton Fire Station No. 9 and look forward to the new and exciting opportunity to work in the Canton Community.”
